Welcome to the Memory & the Pre-Modern North Network
Memory and the Pre-Modern North: An International Memory Studies Research Network Focussing on Viking Age and Medieval Scandinavia (MPMN) is an international scholarly research network whose purpose is to facilitate the application of the many different forms of memory studies, including inter- and cross-disciplinary approaches, to our understanding of Pre-Modern Nordic literature and culture.
The network looks to promote exchange within the academic community about publications and other developments relevant to the study of pre-modern Scandinavia via memory studies. To this end, all interested researchers are encouraged to join our network and to contact each other through it. We would also be very pleased if current and future members would organise workshops or conferences on the topic of our network. We are happy to support such projects according to our possibilities.
Our logo is taken from the 17th-century Melsteðs Edda (SÁM 66), and shows Óðinn and his ravens, Huginn and Muninn.
